    Photography Program

Donald A. Gardner Architects Photography Program- Advertising exposure and free plans are available for qualified homes! Have you built a Donald A. Gardner Home that you want to show off? We are looking for quality homes to feature in print publications and on our website. Send us digital photos of completed homes for consideration! If your landscaped and furnished home is selected for a professional photo shoot (at NO COST to you), Donald A. Gardner Architects will:

A list of guidelines and Frequently Asked Questions is below. If you would like more information, please contact us at info@dongardner.com or call 1.800.388.7580.

    Donald A. Gardner Architects, Inc.
    Photography Program Guidelines

    1.  Email digital photos of your completed, landscaped, furnished and profession-ally decorated Donald A. Gardner house. You may send as many photos as you like, but keep in mind that we will be looking primarily at the Great Room, Dining Room, Kitchen, Master Bedroom and Bath, and the Front and Rear Exteriors. With your photos, please include complete contact information, how long the home will be furnished and any modifications that have been made to the plan.

    2.  The Donald A. Gardner Marketing department will review photos and modifications and if the home meets our initial qualifications, a preliminary visit to the home will be scheduled (if the home is within a reasonable distance from our offices in Greenville, SC).

    3. During the preliminary visit, members of the Donald A. Gardner Marketing department will visit the home to take additional snapshots and get more information about the home. This visit generally takes just 20-30 minutes.

    4.  “Scouting” shots and information about the home are submitted to Donald A. Gardner executives for review.

    5.  After reviewing photos, sales statistics for the plan, and any modifications made, the executive team will approve or deny the home for a professional photo shoot.

    6.  Upon approval of the home, a professional photo shoot will be scheduled based on homeowner/builder availability, the availability of our photographer, the season and weather forecasts.

    7.  Professional photo shoots take an entire day (approximately 8 hours). The builder/homeowner may choose whether to be present for the photo shoot in whole or in part. (It is not necessary for the builder/homeowner to attend the shoot.)

    8.  Upon completion of a professional photo shoot, the purchaser of the plans will receive digital copies of the photographs and reimbursement for the plan package (up to 8-sets, excluding add-on plan options and shipping charges), within 4-6 weeks.

    9.  When the home is featured in one of our nationally distributed magazines, credit will be given to the builder and interior designer on the feature introduction page. If the photographed home is used on a magazine cover, copies will be sent to the builder/homeowner (first cover exposure).

    Still Have Questions?

Check out our Frequently Asked Questions below! If you have a question not addressed below, call us at 1.800.388.7580 or email to info@dongardner.com.

Do you have guidelines for interior design?
Homes should be tastefully decorated, preferably by a qualified interior designer. We seek projects in a variety of interior styles (traditional, transitional, Arts & Crafts, etc.) in order to achieve diversity in our photography portfolio. Window treatments are highly recommended. The use of carefully chosen, appealing colors in main living spaces (Great Room, Master Bedroom and Bath, Kitchen, Dining Room, etc.) will increase the chances of being selected for a professional photo shoot. Homes lacking interior paint selections (i.e. beige or white throughout) are typically not selected. Visit our web site to view previously photographed homes to get an idea of what we are looking for. http://www.dongardner.com/gallery.aspx

Why does the home have to be furnished and decorated?
For a home to be featured in our nationally distributed consumer magazines, it must be furnished and decorated. Interior design creates visual interest and is important in illustrating the layout of the floor plan.

Are the photos I submit eligible for reimbursement?
No. While we welcome the submission of both professional and amateur photography of our plans, Donald A. Gardner Architects must complete a professional photo shoot with our chosen photographer for the project to be eligible for reimbursement. For our purposes (multi-page print features), it is important that architectural details and room relationships are obvious in the photography. Professional lighting, staging and shot styling are also important elements for architectural photography.

I have noticed several photographed plans on your website that have been modified. Which modifications are acceptable?
Slight modifications to the plan are acceptable and do not exclude a home from the Photography Program. These include: increasing square footage of rooms, changing a covered porch to a screened porch, minor exterior material changes, adding or deleting built-ins, etc. Modifications that alter the front exterior of the plan, making it difficult to recognize, will not be approved. Altering window size or placement, deleting gable roofs or other modifications that reduce the curb or visual appeal of the front exterior of the home are less likely to be chosen. Changes to exterior materials on the façade of the home are acceptable, provided that the new materials provide the same level of visual interest as the artist rendering of the plan. Major floor plan modifications will make a home ineligible, including relocating, adding, or removing walls. When submitting photos for consideration, please remember to note any modifications made to the floor plan or exterior of the home.

What will increase the chances of my home being photographed by Donald A. Gardner Architects?
There are many elements that we are looking for in our Photography Program, but we are flexible and are interested in seeing all Donald A. Gardner home plans “come to life.” Homes that are most likely to be photographed are:
  • Built as close to the original plan specifications as possible
  • High quality with no detail ignored
  • Within a reasonable traveling distance
  • Have elegant interior design with universal appeal

  • [Please avoid sending photographs including seasonal themes like Christmas decor, or those containing a large number of “themed” items or collectibles. These distract the eye from the architectural elements of the home, which is what we strive to capture.]

Send interior and exterior digital photos of your completed home to our Marketing Department at info@dongardner.com or for more information, call 1.800.388.7580.
