Over 300 homes were entered in North Carolina's largest Open House, the Raleigh/Wake County Parade of Homes, which took place last month and the beginning of this month. Of the ten Donald A. Gardner Architects designs entered, nine homes won awards. These awards include five Gold Awards, two Silver Awards, and two Bronze Awards. The Gold Awards were given for the following homes: Plan 835, The Whitaker, built by Custom Construction Inc.; Plan 841, The Drysdale, built by Gottfried Homes, Inc.; Plan 926, The Whiteheart, built by Peter A. Brewer Construction, Inc.; Plan 963, The Langley, built by Watkins Building, Inc.; and Plan 793, The Wyndham, built by Highlander Homes. Silvers were awarded for Plan 967, The Satchwell, built by Manning Homes, Inc. and Plan 518-E2, The Woodbine, built by Tart Custom Homes. Plan 841, The Drysdale, built by Manning Homes, Inc. and Plan 1008, The Dayton, built by Tommy Allen Construction Inc. each received a Bronze Award.

Q: How are steel beams noted on the blueprints?
A: Steel beams are noted in the following format: W12x26. The "W" stands for wide flange, 12 is the depth of the beam and 26 is the pounds per linear foot.
