Conceptual house plan 1485 features a rustic exterior with a mix of cedar shakes, stone, and siding. Multiple gables create a diverse and interested facade while a stone portico is instantly welcoming. The two-car garage opens to a drop zone with a bench and a closet. The utility room has built-in cabinets for storage and a pantry is just around the corner. The L-shape kitchen centers around an island and the sink is positioned with a window above. A coffered ceiling tops the great room and four-panel sliding doors open to a spacious rear porch. French doors offer guests a stylish entry to the foyer and a large dining room functions equal well for casual meals as it does for formal entertaining. The master suite is flooded with light from a wall of windows and a step-ceiling brings elegance to the space. The master bathroom includes a double sink vanity, a luxurious freestanding bathtub, and a walk-in shower, and opens to an over-sized walk-in closet. A bedroom/study on the opposite side enjoys a walk-in closet and access to a full bathroom with a walk-in shower and a linen closet.

I would love to see a powder room on the first floor. We are retiring soon and my elderly mother-in-law is moving in with us so we need 2 downstairs bedrooms. The downstairs powder room would allow her to have her own bathroom. I don't think we are unique in this situation these days.

I can rarely admit to this - but could build the revised plan without change. This would easily fit our needs as an active retired couple with 4 married kids living spread across the country and 10 grands from newborns to college age. I see places for everyone -

The little storage room on the 2nd floor would be a great exercise room. I would extend the 2nd bedroom to be the main master and reconfigure the current master to be an optional 2nd master. Kitchens are so noisy that is why I do not prefer Master bedrooms next to them.
